The Ancient City Park in Samut Prakan

The Ancient City is a park near Bangkok featuring small-scale replicas of buildings from across Thailand. It is a wonderful place to discover the basics of classical Thai and Khmer architecture without traveling the whole country. The park is large and very photogenic, with replicas placed around a series of islands and gardens. I first visited as a six-year-old in 1996, and I have been back about six times since. These days it is easy to reach, with the BTS extended to Samut Prakan and a taxi from Kheha station costing around 50 baht. Cycling is my favorite way to get around, but there is also a park bus, golf carts, and plenty of space to walk.
